In this article, we are going to discuss the cause of marijuana with 3 leaves. Each cannabis strain is unique, and some plants have more tips on their leaves than others. Most cannabis plants begin with 3 leaves when they are young. However, as they become mature, the leaves spread to have more points. After germination, the leaves usually have a second set of 3-point leaves. From then onwards, the leaves normally have more than three points. Cannabis plants have several numbers of points. However, the most common point is seven. Depending on the strain, you will see 5, 9, 11, or even 13 points which aren’t unusual. While these may be rare, occasionally marijuana plants have an even number of points. Marijuana with 3 leaves might result from different growing conditions. Some plants will have more leaves depending on the environment. An ideal environment can lead to leaves with more points. Nonetheless, some plants may have varying leaves even on the same plant. Regardless, what if your marijuana plant grows with the normal 3-finger leaves? What does that mean? What causes marijuana with 3 Leaves?
Cannabis plants with 3-point leaves may also be because of a stress response. This response is usually a result of major changes in light quality or light schedule. For example, switching plants from fluorescent to powerful LED lights can lead to 3-point leaves. The major cause for this effect is because the plants adjusted to the light and started growing regularly. Why plants start growing 3-point leaves after a change in light can depend on the type of strain. Changing the light schedule can also affect the number of leaves. Plants may grow 3-point leaves after switching their grow light or having irregular light schedules. Outdoor growing comes with difficulties controlling mother nature. Natural factors like bush fires can cause plants to grow 3-point leaves. Bush fires create smoke that blocks the sun's rays which leads to a 3-point stress response. Plants growing 3-point leaves in response to stress will correct themselves after a while. All you need is time. Bottom line Cannabis plants with 3 leaves is quite rare but if your cannabis plants suddenly have 3-point leaves, an unusual scenario you shouldn't ignore. Find out the cause of this change and act accordingly. Medical marijuana is popular for its many health benefits to both young and adults. Traditional methods and prescription drugs usually come with several side effects, and they may not work for everybody. Low-THC cannabis and medical marijuana are now suitable replacements for patients seeking a natural therapeutic alternative. Different prescription medications may not be great for our bodies as we age. So, it’s obvious why several people are using medical marijuana as a replacement for prescription drugs. In this article, we are going to focus on marijuana vs prescription drugs and provide reasons why cannabis is healthier to use than prescription drugs. An alternative to harmful opioids
Studies show that opioids can potentially damage your essential organs as you get old. Also, it can lead to addiction as your tolerance levels increase or even result in an overdose. Patients with severe pain usually use potent pain killers which can cause organ damage, tolerance, and addiction. Cannabis as a medicine acts as a safe replacement for opioids. Also, cannabis has a low risk of overdose. When you ingest or smoke marijuana for health conditions it provides little or no side effects. Less harmful side effects Although most medications have side effects, some can be more dangerous than others. Some prescription drugs can lead to organ damage or addiction. In the case of marijuana vs prescription drugs, marijuana has few side effects which doesn’t result in long-term damage. Relieves specific conditions for adults As you age your body becomes liable to certain health conditions. Even the healthiest people become susceptible to health problems as they grow older. The side effects of prescription medications may be difficult for people of age to handle. Interestingly, medical marijuana can assist with a lot of conditions that come as we age. Common conditions include Alzheimer’s, dementia, osteoporosis, chronic pain, arthritis, and glaucoma. Controllable doses and medication Usually, the medications available to us are dictated by our doctor and levels of tolerance to certain drugs. There may be several instances where no medications work for you and there are no other options. Also, these prescription medications come in uncontrollable dosages. Regardless, cannabis comes in several dosages and formulations available to patients. These dosages reduce any withdrawal effects. Medical marijuana patients experiencing side effects such as paranoia or increased fatigue can easily use cannabis. Medical cannabis offers the perfect dosage and patients can easily reduce their dosage level to fit their condition. Relieves multiple symptoms in one go If you have several medical conditions, you can take multiple prescription medications to relieve all these symptoms. Managing multiple medications can stress your bank account. It also causes stress to patients as they run from one pharmacy to another. Medical marijuana is a single plant that treats many ailments. Visiting a dispensary will give you an all-in-one solution for all your health problems. Offers several methods for intake Prescription drugs are only available in a few forms which might not suit the patient. However, while cannabis is an effective treatment for many ailments, it also has several methods of consumption. If a patient prefers not to smoke, then they can consume in the form of edibles capsules, oils tinctures. Bottom line Marijuana vs prescription drug is a high debate by many. As of now, we know that marijuana is a great replacement for prescription drugs. Marijuana is less harmful to health and offers multiple benefits in one go. Cannabis legalization is on the rise in the US with 11 states including Washington D.C. having legal cannabis. The reason for the increase in the legalization of weed is partly because the smoking herb is less addictive (and safer) than alcohol. Is marijuana dangerous? Many are asking about marijuana or alcohol more addictive. Cannabis is a medicine for cancer and pain which doesn’t lead to terrible withdrawal symptoms. Unlike alcohol, weed faces stigma. In the past cannabis was facing a lot of bans due to people claiming that it’s a gateway drug. However, recent studies into marijuana show that it's more beneficial than people think. Many people believe that marijuana is the least destructive illicit drug, but that doesn’t mean it won't harm you. While cannabis has some medical uses, abusing it can cause severe side effects such as paranoia. Is alcohol dangerous? Alcohol comes in the form of beer, wine, or liquor. Alcohol contains a psychoactive compound called ethanol that alters people’s minds when drinking. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) notes that an estimated 88,000 U.S. people die each year from acute or chronic alcohol causes. Alcohol can cause the following short-term effects on a person.
Consuming alcohol for a long period can lead to addiction. Once dependent, a person who drinks can develop alcohol withdrawal syndrome which is detrimental to the health. Alcohol dependence can become life-threatening if not acted upon immediately. High or drunk; which is better? Drinking while driving is bad, and it leads to 29 deaths every day in the United States. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Highway Loss Data Institute notes that States with legal cannabis also experience a high increase in car accidents, It’s difficult to understand how marijuana affects driving. This makes it challenging for lawmakers to implement laws on driving while high because there is no reliable test for weed like there is for alcohol. Which Is More Addictive? Based on physical dependence and the risk of death, alcohol is far more addictive. Saying that one is more addictive than another is like choosing the lesser of two evils. But due to the legalization of cannabis in different states, we can say that cannabis is less harmful. Marijuana addiction is a myth and most first-time users of cannabis do not develop a marijuana use disorder. On the other hand, 15 percent of alcohol drinkers develop alcohol use disorder. People use marijuana because they want a treatment for a specific illness. However, people consume alcohol for fun. This means that you can easily control your intake of marijuana than alcohol. Regardless, abusing marijuana can lead to addiction. Taking high THC cannabis can lead to social, health, and personal effects. Bottom line Marijuana or alcohol more addictive is challenging as both are recreational drugs. The legalization of cannabis in different states has led to a fall in alcohol abuse. This goes far to say that cannabis is less addictive than alcohol. Medical marijuana became legal in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2020. PEDs, as the name suggests, are substances that enhance the performance of activities. The use of PEDs by athletes is commonly known as “doping” which is unethical in world sports. While PEDs are illegal in sports, they are useful for common medical conditions. The use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) is destroying the modern-day sport. Famous athletes like Lance Armstrong and Justin Gatlin were guilty of using banned substances. These athletes choose to use illegal PEDs for different reasons. Since athletics is very competitive, many athletes may resort to drugs to give them a boost. Performance-enhancing drugs work in several ways, which makes detection difficult. What are Masking Agents?
Masking agents are a kind of medication that can block the detection of PEDs. Naturally, masking agents will falsify a positive drug test to show negative. There are different masking agents which work uniquely from another. However, all masking agents work to prevent an illegal substance from detection. Masking agents (such as diuretics) can mask the results of doping controls, leading to false results. Marijuana can mask peds because of its diuretic effects. Masking agents are primarily under diuretics. Other substances like probenecid and plasma expanders can also alter doping samples, modify urine excretion or mask the presence of other doping agents. The use of drugs to mask other drugs is the primary reason why diuretics and alcohol are illegal in many sports. Alcohol and diuretics can mask other drugs as well as enhance performance in some sports. Use of cannabis to mask other drugs Cannabis effects on the body depend on body size, previous exposure, amount consumed, and more. Athletes use cannabis to mask other drugs and it’s an illegal drug in sports because of its diuretic effect. Popular Banned Masking Agents Diuretics These are a category of medications for patients suffering from high blood pressure and related conditions. Professional athletes can’t use these medications for such conditions. To use such medication, you must receive a doctor’s recommendation. Popular diuretics include:
Cannabis may also act as a diuretic because of its ability to mask other drugs. There is a saying that marijuana can mask PEDs but there is a need for more studies. Cannabis is an illegal substance in sports and any athlete who uses it faces a ban. However, the belief that marijuana can mask peds may increase its prohibition in sports. Diuretics increase the amount of water being coming out of the body through urine. Since many medications and PEDs go out in the form of urine, this reduces the amount of PED in the urine. This makes it harder to detect the PEDs by drug tests. Diuretics mask peds such as anabolic steroids and stimulants. They quickly reduce an athlete’s body weight by reducing water in the body. This lower body weight allows athletes to compete in a lower weight class or perform quicker. Bottom Line As athletes face more pressure to win, the use of performance-enhancing drugs also increases. The saying that marijuana can mask peds is still unconfirmed as we need more studies. Regardless, with this increasing trend in the use of peds, offenders will face suspensions and bans. Breastfeeding is an important process for any child. It forms a significant maternal connection between child and mother. Breast milk also contains important nutrients that facilitate the growth of the child. With many states legalizing cannabis, more pregnant women are using cannabis, but is cannabis safe while breastfeeding? In this article, we are going to show the link between marijuana and breastfeeding to better understand if it’s safe or not. What is marijuana?
Marijuana is a complex plant containing hundreds of cannabinoids. These cannabinoids all interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system contains a group of receptors that work to control metabolism, immune function, memory, and many more biological functions. The interaction between marijuana and the endocannabinoid system can treat many conditions such as pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and glaucoma. Women who use medical marijuana for these conditions may be willing to use it while breastfeeding. While medical marijuana may work well during pre-pregnancy, it may not work well during or after pregnancy. Scientists don’t support the use of cannabis while breastfeeding. Some moms use cannabis while breastfeeding due to a pre-existing condition. Marijuana in breast milk Marijuana has several metabolites including cannabinol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC produces psychoactive effects which give users the "high". When a breastfeeding child ingests THC, it goes into her breast milk through her blood. THC is also easily transferable to different parts of the body due to its low molecular weight and high fat solubility. THC also goes in fatty tissues, including the brain. The Risks of Cannabis and Breastfeeding The main thing people fear breastfeeding while using cannabis is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and its metabolites. Compounds such as THC flow through the bloodstream and are stored in body fat. Since breast milk has high amounts of saturated and unsaturated fat, THC can flow right into it. According to studies, cannabis while breastfeeding can cause the following effects. Lower in milk production: Some studies note that THC prevents prolactin production. Prolactin is a primary hormone for nursing mothers as it helps the glands generate milk. Cannabis can make parents breastfeed their children for shorter periods. Loss of weight: Cannabis may reduce the child’s weight and physical development. This is because THC makes newborns sleepy and fatigued, preventing them from suckling milk. Slow development: The child undergoes brain development during the first few months after birth. Some studies note that THC exposure may prompt long-term neurodevelopmental effects on the child. Bottom line Breast milk brings joy to a child, it fills the child with essential nutrients. Studies on prenatal exposure to THC, are still in the early stages. This means we cannot conclude whether THC affects breastfeeding. Regardless, you must know about marijuana and breastfeeding. Breastfeeding moms with an existing condition only be manageable with medical marijuana should visit a healthcare provider. They will provide guides and discuss possible alternatives that may be safer. As of now, Breastfeeding women should avoid marijuana. But if you decide to use cannabis then be extremely cautious. Cannabis is possibly the oldest crop known by humans, but do you know where marijuana originated? Traditionally, weed was said to originate from Central Asia around the Mongolian steppes and Altai Mountain range. Other studies suggest the plant originated in Tibet, however. Some researchers suggest the origins of cannabis lies in Pakistan’s Hindu Kush region around 2.3 million years ago. Some studies suggest that small amounts of the cannabis plant that spread across Southwestern Asia became Cannabis indica. Another type of cannabis, Cannabis ruderalis, was popular in Siberia. Cannabis sativa grew wildly around the Caucasus Mountains and Balkans. Excavations show where marijuana originated
During the Excavation of a Neolithic site dated from 10,000 BC in Yuan-shan Taiwan, there was a lot of revelations. There was pottery with hemp cord marks on the surface and a stone beater used to beat hemp. There was another discovery of hemp ropes in former Czechoslovakia which predates the Taiwanese site by over 17,000 years. Sadly, there has been no discovery between these two dates. However, since the rope came from Central Europe, it means that did not originate in Asia. Maybe it was used for centuries before spreading to Europe. However, if the plant spread millions of years ago as researchers predict, then maybe other Homo species used it as well. Other excavations have revealed several textile articles made from silk and hemp. These items were discovered in a Chinese Neolithic site and were dated to 4,000 BC. At this time, the Yangshao economy of the Yellow River valley was heavy users of cannabis. Archaeologists have proof that the Yangshao people wore hemp clothing and created hemp pottery. They used hemp seeds for oil as well as for cooking. Important dates in the history of cannabis 600 BC – Hemp rope is first utilized as a part of the region that is presently southern Russia. 70 BC – Marijuana shows up as a prescription in a diary kept by one of Nero's armed force doctors. 100 AD – Hemp rope shows up in England. 130-200 AD – Marijuana endorsed as a drug in Greece 200 BC – Industrialized Hemp as a material is first utilized as a part of Ancient Greece. 500 AD – The Jewish Talmud discusses cannabis' euphoric properties. 850 AD – Viking utilization of hemp rope is found dating to this time. 1000 AD – Industrialized Hemp shows up in Italy for use in rope and sails. 1271-1295 AD – Marco Polo reports back to Europe about cannabis utilization. 1533 AD – King Henry arranges all ranchers to develop hemp for the industry. 1600 AD – England begins to import industrialized hemp. During the Middle Ages in Europe, cannabis was popular as a pharmaceutical drug. Marijuana was a common remedy for cough, jaundice, and tumors. Nonetheless, doctors at that time still warned users about using too much cannabis- stating that high amounts could cause sterility and other unsafe conditions. The origination of cannabis over the last century has played an important role in our history. After many years of being an illegal drug, cannabis is now gaining momentum. Bottom line Where marijuana originated is still a question most people are not certain about. However, the excavations of ancient sites could potentially show their true origin. Also, ancient books point to a Chinese origin. As the plant becomes more widespread studies into its origin will come to light. Currently, cannabis is a major topic amongst many politicians and the public. People want to know about the legal history of marijuana and how marijuana became illegal. It’s also important to know how it became a schedule 1 drug. The Mexican migrants To understand how marijuana became illegal read on this article. In the United States in the early 1900’s just after the Mexican Revolution there was a flow of migrants. These Mexican migrants went into states like Texas and Louisiana. Surprisingly enough, these Mexican migrants did not come alone. They brought alongside their native language, culture, and customs. The primary culture among these Mexicans was the use of cannabis as a medicine and relaxant. The term Marihuana
The Mexican immigrant's nickname for the cannabis plant was “marihuana”. This was a strange term to most Americans as most of them were familiar with “cannabis”. The media started stigmatizing these new citizens by falsely complaining about their behavior and their use of marihuana. American citizens didn’t know that “marihuana” was already a plant they knew about. Demonizing the cannabis plant was another way to demonize the Mexican immigrants. To effectively monitor these new citizens, El Paso TX, took the example of San Francisco’s playbook. This state had outlawed opium years earlier to effectively control Chinese immigrants. The notion was to have the means to search, detain and deport Mexican immigrants. That excuse results in how marijuana became illegal. This method of controlling individuals through their customs was good enough. Its success made it become a national strategy for monitoring certain populations. The Marijuana Tax Act In the 1930s there were hearings on marijuana law. Claims began to spread about the potential of marijuana to cause men of color to become violent. There were also claims about how men of color solicit sex from white women. This made the creation of the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 which effectively banned cannabis use and sales. This Act was ruled unconstitutional several years later, but this wasn’t the end. It was replaced with the Controlled Substances Act in the 1970s which ranked drugs according to their risk and potential for addiction. Cannabis was under schedule 1 which was the most restrictive category. The Schafer Commission The Schafer Commission later suggested that cannabis should not be a Schedule I drug. It even went as far as denying it as an illicit substance. But Nixon did not support the recommendations of the commission, and marijuana was still a Schedule I substance. In 1996, California became the first state to approve medical marijuana. This ended a 59-year reign of cannabis as an illicit substance with no medical value. Before 1937, cannabis reached a milestone of 5000 years, serving as medicine across many cultures. Cannabis critics believe that there is no research to warrant medicinal use. On the other hand, supporters of medical marijuana celebrate the 5000 years of cannabis history. Cannabis was a long-term treatment for many conditions in different communities and still works to date. Bottom line Currently, 23 states, including Washington, DC, have passed medical marijuana laws. This has made the public question why cannabis is still illegal at the federal level. Over recent years, cannabis and derivatives of cannabis are not legal. This is according to Schedule IV of the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. This schedule consists of drugs that can potentially abuse or harm individuals. It also involves that have an extremely limited medical use, such as fentanyl and heroin. In January of 2019, the World Health Organization’s Expert Committee on Drug Dependence made a list of recommendations. These recommendations known as WHO cannabis recommendations were six. The recommendations had to be voted on by the UN for subsequent adoption. After several delays the vote was unsuccessful. Recently, the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs convened for their 63rd session to vote on the recommendations. WHO cannabis recommendations you should know
The first of the WHO cannabis recommendations, 5.1 comes with the highest popularity. This recommendation has high consequences for international control of cannabis 5.1. The recommendation is to: “Delete cannabis and cannabis resin from Schedule IV of the 1961 Convention” The vote passed with a majority of 27 votes for and 25 against with 1 abstention. Therefore, cannabis won’t be a Schedule IV drug. This result of this vote portrays cannabis and its derivatives as schedule I rather than schedule I and IV. This is good for cannabis enthusiasts worldwide as they take a step closer to freedom. Cannabis not being a schedule IV means that the UN and the WHO believe that cannabis is not “liable to produce ill-effects”. Also, in contrast to other schedule IV drugs, cannabis offers significant therapeutic value. Since cannabis remains in Schedule I, it’s still subject to strict international control. Therefore, the instant legal actions for the regulation of cannabis come with limits. However, according to the US representative at the vote Ethan Glick: “This action will potentially facilitate global research into the medicinal value of cannabis. It will also improve research on the public health effects of cannabis. Furthermore, the cannabis industry will draw additional investigators to the field deterred by the Schedule IV status.” Another of the WHO cannabis Recommendations was 5.5 had a majority of 43 votes against, 6 for, and 4 abstentions. This means the UN won't “Include a footnote on CBD preparations to Schedule I of the 1961 Convention to read: Preparations with high CBD with less than 0.2 percent of THC are not under international control”. Therefore, CBD will maintain some legal ambiguity under the UN conventions. So far nations against the bill were not against CBD being liberal. These nations didn’t like a specific recommendation. Some nations acknowledge negative votes due to the absence of clear language in these recommendations”. Other WHO cannabis Recommendations Four recommendations did not receive appreciation. These recommendations were a reject by the majority of the 53 member states who voted. According to another WHO cannabis Recommendations, 5.2.1 THC will become a Schedule I drug. It also entails the rearrangement of international controls without the loss of restrictions on cannabis use. Recommendation 5.2.1 was negatively voted by a majority of 28 votes against and 23 against. Therefore, THC is still a schedule IV drug rather than a Schedule I of the 1961 Convention. Also, the rejection of recommendation 5.2.1 means recommendations 5.2.1, 5.3.1, 5.3.2, and 5.6 became an automatic reject. Recommendation 5.4 was to “Delete extracts and tinctures of cannabis from Schedule I of the 1961 Convention”. However, this recommendation was a reject with 27 votes against and 24 votes in favor. |
